Boost exports of Cretan products to the German market

The Region of Crete through the Agronutritional Cooperation attempts to boost exports of Cretan products to the German market

The strengthening of the extroversion of Cretan businesses and the increase of Cretan exports to the German market, with emphasis on food products that have been classified as P.D.O. and P.G.I. is the aim of the action, which was implemented by the Agronutritional Cooperation, in the framework of the European Programme entitled „THE EUROPEAN FOOD MASTERS TASTE THE AUTHENTIC/ EU FOOD MASTERS“ by hosting German entrepreneurs (food wholesalers – importers) and journalists – bloggers.

Specifically, representatives of large importing companies, who are active in Germany, came to our island, visited businesses – members of the Agronutritional Cooperation and got to know the products of our place and their production process.

Commercial meetings were held in a central hotel in Heraklion, with the aim of establishing new partnerships that will strengthen the exports of Cretan products to the German market. In particular, 31 Cretan businesses from all over Crete, members of the Agronutritional Cooperation, participated in these meetings, which exceeded 200 B2B meetings.

The German delegation also included German journalists who also visited production units of the island, as well as certified mass catering facilities, having the opportunity to get to know and record the quality of Cretan agricultural products, the way they are cultivated, prepared and standardized, as well as the unique flavours of the Cretan cuisine. They were impressed by the Cretan Gastronomy Centre in Argyroupoli, where during their visit, there was an olive oil tasting with the support of Eleftheria Germanaki, Head of Management & Quality and Technical Manager at the ASP Crete Organoleptic Laboratory and a cooking lesson with chef Nektaria Kokkinaki.

The mission was organised in cooperation with the Greek Consulate General in Düsseldorf with the participation of the First Secretary of Commercial Affairs Mrs. Frida Georgiou.

The Vice-Regional Governor of Crete and President of the Agronutritional Cooperation Stavros Tzedakis underlined: „Our purpose is extroversion, that is, how we can highlight and promote our products in foreign markets, so that they can acquire the added value that we envision. By giving local producers a share of this surplus value, they will be able to continue producing, they will be given a strong incentive. In the Region of Crete and the Agronutritional Cooperation, we will continue our effort for competitive products, which means: quality, standardization and branding. These are the parameters that will make our products capable of conquering the domestic and international market.
